MENTZ EMS and DDIP for Victoria

MENTZ GmbH is developing new systems to enrich public transport information for one of Australia’s fastest growing states

The Munich-based system house MENTZ is working with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) in Victoria to implement our Event Management System (EMS) and Dynamic Data Integration Platform (DDIP) data hub to improve the public transport travelling experience.

More data, global standards, better data quality

EMS and DDIP will give Victorians higher quality travel information by improving the type of public transport data that is collected and how it’s presented to customers. “In concrete terms, the technical possibilities for the consistent supply of real-time data and disruption information will improve, for example through provisioning of the data in the global standard format GTFS-R. The project will also see a switch to Open Street Map (OSM) and improved modelling of stops for more detailed as well as optimized barrier-free routing. All in all, this results in comprehensive, standardised and consistent public transport data of Victoria for internal systems and the open data market,” emphasizes MENTZ project manager Andreas Mohr. During the last year, Mohr and his team undertook a proof of concept and successfully tested the new systems under live conditions.

DTP, through Public Transport Victoria (PTV), have been a MENTZ customer for over 20 years using the DIVA and EFA system from MENTZ for its public transport journey planner.

Victoria is expecting strong population growth and higher usage of public transport in the coming years. With the EMS and the DDIP from MENTZ, Victoria is taking the next steps to further improve its public transport information and data capabilities.
